Job summary

Diamond Energy, part of Energy Bay, is seeking an Asset Operations Engineer in Melbourne to own the safe, compliant and commercially optimised operation of our battery storage, solar PV, embedded networks and metering assets. You will lead maintenance planning and fault analysis, and drive upgrades to maximise availability and performance.

You will ensure regulatory compliance with NER and AEMO procedures, manage O&M contractors, and maintain detailed audit trails.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, power systems, renewable energy, mechatronic or related discipline, with a current driver’s licence.
• 3-5 years’ experience in NEM asset operations, grid-scale solar or BESS, including C&I solar, embedded networks or metering.
• Strong knowledge of NEM, NER, AEMO procedures, FCAS markets and registration categories.
• Experience managing O&M contracts, OEMs, warranty processes and field contractors.
• Data analysis skills for fault and performance investigation (Excel, Python or SQL).
• Calm and decisive under pressure with a rigorous approach to compliance and documentation.
• Customer-focused and commercially aware, takes ownership through to close-out and on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Oversee real-time and day-to-day operation of BESS, solar, embedded network and metering assets.
• Maximise availability and performance, track efficiency, curtailment, state of health and degradation.
• Monitor dispatch conformance, ramp rates, SoC management and FCAS enablement.
• Manage alarms, incidents and the O&M ticketing workflow through to closure, including after-hours on-call responses.
• Lead onboarding of new assets into operations, including AEMO registration across categories.
• Maintain compliance with NER, AEMO procedures and connection agreements; manage incident reporting and outage notifications.
• Keep a live compliance register and audit trail for each asset.
• Monitor AEMC and AEMO market reforms and prepare fleet ahead of dates.
• Own the annual preventative maintenance plan and lead reactive/corrective maintenance with O&M contractors and OEMs.
• Act as technical lead during faults/outages, perform root cause analysis and track corrective actions to closure.
• Define scopes of work, direct field works and verify fault resolutions.
• Manage warranty claims, spares and maintenance records; serve as operations contact for third-party asset owners.
