Job summary

Fairfield City Council invites applications for a Road Restoration Officer within the Asset Management Division. The role focuses on coordinating inspection, assessment, costing and compliance of road and footpath reinstatement works to restore assets to required standards, in line with legislation and specifications.

The position supports safe, functional and sustainable infrastructure while aiding cost recovery and compliance across the road network, aiding delivery of Asset Management Plans

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in inspecting, assessing and managing road, footpath and civil asset reinstatement works
  • Experience in preparing cost estimates and/or quotations for civil works, including schedules of rates and cost recovery principles
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction and reinstatement practices, including asphalt, concrete, kerb and gutter
  • Working knowledge of Roads Act 1993 (NSW), WHS requirements and standards governing works within public road reserves
  • Experience and understanding of civil infrastructure construction and maintenance, including technical specifications and engineering standards
  • Ability to undertake site inspections, assess compliance with Council requirements and rectify non-compliant works
  • Ability to liaise with contractors, utility authorities, residents and internal stakeholders
  • Strong customer service skills to manage enquiries, complaints and service requests
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability in assessing site conditions and restoration outcomes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical standards
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records and asset-related data

Job description

The Position

The Asset Management Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a high-performing team responsible for protecting and restoring Council’s civil infrastructure assets impacted by utility, development and third-party works.

The Road Restoration Officer is responsible for coordinating the inspection, assessment, costing and compliance of road and footpath reinstatement works to ensure Council assets are restored to required standards, in accordance with legislative requirements, technical specifications and asset management principles.

The role contributes to the effective delivery of Council’s Asset Management Plans by ensuring infrastructure assets remain safe, functional and sustainable, while supporting cost recovery and compliance outcomes across the road network.

The position is located within the Civil and Built Environment Branch and plays a key role in supporting the management and protection of Council’s road and transport infrastructure assets.

About You
Qualification
  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction, Asset Management or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated relevant experience in road restoration, civil infrastructure inspection, or asset management within a local government or utilities environment
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence
Essential

  • Experience in preparing cost estimates and/or quotations for civil works, including application of schedules of rates and cost recovery principles
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction and reinstatement practices, including asphalt, concrete, kerb and gutter and associated infrastructure works
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Roads Act 1993 (NSW), WHS requirements, and standards governing works within public road reserves
  • Experience and understanding of civil infrastructure construction and maintenance, including technical specifications and engineering standards
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake site inspections, assess compliance with Council requirements, and ensure rectification of non-compliant works
  • Ability to liaise effectively with contractors, utility authorities, residents and internal stakeholders using a professional and collaborative approach
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to manage enquiries, complaints and service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability in assessing site conditions and determining appropriate restoration outcomes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical standards related to civil infrastructure works
  • Experience in maintaining accurate records, reports and asset-related data within corporate systems
Desirable
  • Experience in project management.

  • Knowledge of cost control & financial accountability.
Salary & Employment Conditions
  • Full-time temporary position for a period of 12 months, 35 hours per week
  • This position is a Grade 6, salary range is $99,134p.a. with progression to $106,755 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $116,122 p.a., plus superannuation
  • Flexible working hours are available.
  • A motor vehicle benefit is available
