Job summary

Byron Shire Council is seeking an experienced Asset Management Coordinator to lead strategic planning, development, and continuous improvement of the council's asset management framework. You will align asset planning with long‑term financial sustainability, capital investment and service delivery for the community.

You will oversee the asset management team, drive programs, policies, systems and reporting, and champion best‑practice asset management to deliver value for Byron Shire.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in asset management, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in strategic asset management, lifecycle planning, and local government contexts.
  • Demonstrated leadership coordinating specialist staff and cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong capability in asset data management, analysis, and reporting using asset management systems and GIS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; collaborative, outcomes‑focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the asset management system, policies, and plans.
  • Coordinate asset management programs to support strategic, operational, and long‑term financial planning.
  • Maintain accurate asset data to support governance, audit, reporting, and decision‑making.
  • Develop and manage forward capital investment, renewal, and maintenance programs.
  • Prepare reports, budgets, business cases, and performance information for Council and management.
  • Lead and support staff and coordinate asset management activities across the organisation.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including the community, on asset management and service levels.
  • Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety, environmental, and organisational requirements.

As the Asset Management Coordinator, you will lead the strategic planning, development and continuous improvement of Byron Shire Council's asset management framework, helping ensure the long-term sustainability of essential community infrastructure.

Reporting to the Manager Assets & Major Projects, you will provide leadership to the asset management team while driving asset management program, policies, systems and strategies across the organisation. You'll play a pivotal role in linking asset planning with long-term financial sustainability, capital investment planning and service delivery outcomes for the community.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced asset management professional who enjoys working at both a strategic and operational level. You will collaborate with stakeholders across Council, oversee critical asset data and reporting, support major infrastructure decision-making, and champion best-practice asset management principles that deliver real value for the community.

What you'll be doing
  • Leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Council’s asset management system, policies, and plans
  • Coordinating asset management programs to support strategic, operational, and long‑term financial planning
  • Maintaining accurate, reliable asset data to support governance, audit, reporting, and decision‑making
  • Developing and managing forward capital investment, renewal, and maintenance programs
  • Preparing reports, budgets, business cases, and performance information for Council and management
  • Leading and supporting staff and coordinating asset management activities across the organisation
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including the community, on asset management and service levels
  • Ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety, environmental, and organisational requirements
What we look for
  • Tertiary qualifications in asset management, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of strategic asset management and lifecycle planning in a local government environment.
  • Proven experience developing, implementing, and continuously improving asset management systems and practices
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with experience coordinating specialist staff and cross‑functional teams
  • High‑level capability in asset data management, analysis, and reporting, including the use of asset management systems and GIS
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly
  • A collaborative, outcomes‑focused approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results within time and budget constraints
We offer:
  • A term, full-time position until 30 June 2028 (35 hours per week), with possibility of extension.
  • Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment at a salary in the range of $108,746 to $125,999 per annum (dependent upon skills and experience).

Location:

This position is based atMullumbimby, however Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
