Job summary

Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking an Asset Engineer Roads – Programs & Inspections to support the maintenance and renewal of our road and drainage network. You will supervise technical inspections, assist with programming and provide engineering guidance on renewals and rehabilitation.

Reporting to the Coordinator Assets Civil Infrastructure, you will ensure projects align with budget, specifications and timelines while working within a collaborative council environment that values safety

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with experience in construction and maintenance of roads, drainage and related facilities.
  • Experience developing forward works programs, project management, contract management, community consultation, project scoping and quantity surveying with detailed estimates.
  • Experience in civil construction and maintenance of roads, bitumen sealing, unsealed roads, asphalt, traffic facilities and drainage, including management of in-house resources and contractors.
  • Ability to interpret plans and specs and apply statutory requirements.
  • High level computer literacy (MS Word/Excel/Databases/Asset management systems).
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of risk management and WHS in road construction/maintenance.
  • Experience with environmental assessments and management plans; familiarity with Local Government Act, Roads Act, POEO Act and Civil Liability Act.
  • Hold a C Class Drivers Licence and WHS Induction Card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and inspection of maintenance works for road and drainage assets.
  • Lead pre-project programming, project management and engineering support for renewals and rehabilitation.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and meet specifications.

Salary: $108,133.50 - $125,669.21 + 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance + 12% Superannuation per annum

What You'll Do

As our Asset Engineer Roads – Programs and Inspections you'll report to the Coordinator Assets Civil Infrastructure and be responsible for the technical support and inspection of maintenance works for Council’s road and drainage network assets. You'll focus on undertaking pre-project programming, project management and engineering support and advice on renewals and rehabilitation across Council urban and rural civil infrastructure assets, ensuring projects delivered are on schedule and meet specifications with a clear connection to the numbers in the budget.

What You'll Need (Essential Criteria)

  • Degree qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience in construction and maintenance of roads networks, facilities and stormwater drainage.
  • Experience in developing forward works programs, project management, contract management for civil works (including associated administration), community consultation, project scoping and quantity surveyingincluding preparation of detailed estimates.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil construction and maintenance relating to roads, bitumen sealing, unsealed roads, asphalt, traffic facilities and stormwater drainage including management of in-house resources andcontractors.
  • Sound experience in the interpretation and application of Engineering plans and specifications and statutory requirements.
  • A demonstrated high level of computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, asset management systems).
  • Demonstrated sound conflict resolution skills and the ability to negotiate successful outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing risk and managing workplace health and safety using safe systems of work in road construction and maintenance activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing environmental assessments and management plans and practical knowledge of Local Government Act, Roads Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act(POEO Act) and Civil Liability Act.
  • Hold a C Class Drivers Licence and WHS Induction Card.
