  • Experience managing and reconciling large volumes of asset condition or inspection data (essential).
  • ISO 55001 Asset Management understanding.
  • Experience in asset management in engineering or infrastructure environments.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines.
  • MS Office suite proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Process backlog of culvert and pit inspection data to feed asset systems.
  • Ensure outputs are reflected in asset management systems in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of the asset database.
  • Plan and conduct inspections, update asset condition in systems, escalate defects.
  • Assist in forward works planning and lifecycle models for 3- and 10-year plans.
  • Measure KPIs and communicate asset condition risks to stakeholders.
  • Travel to asset locations for field activities.

Job Description Summary

ConnectSydney are on the hunt for an enthusiastic Asset Engineer (Culverts)to join our team at our Rockdale office!

About the Role

ConnectSydney, a joint venture of ServiceStream, Boral, and Johnson Controls, in partnership with Transport for NSW (TfNSW), is entrusted with the management of the Harbour Zone. Our responsibilities encompass routine maintenance, strategic enhancements, and specialised projects aimed at bolstering Sydney’s transport infrastructure.

The Asset Engineer – Culverts role is a 12-month fixed term role established to process a substantial backlog of subcontractor-collected culvert and pit inspection data and bring it into the asset management systems. While working through the backlog, the Asset Engineer will also assist in managing ongoing inspection programs, ensuring accurate asset data, timely inspections, and effective defect resolution, and will contribute to lifecycle planning, tactical works programs, and continuous improvement of asset management systems.

The Asset Engineer will report to the Strategic Asset Manager and will assist the Network Needs Team in managing Civil Assets, primarily Culverts, across the Sydney Harbour Zone of the Sydney Road Assets Performance Contract (SRAPC).

This role will be based from our Rockdale office (hybrid working available – 3 days in office).

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection Data Backlog Processing (Year 1 Priority)

  • Systematically process the accumulated backlog of subcontractor culvert and pit inspection data, working through it in a prioritised order agreed with the Strategic Asset Manager.
  • Process subcontractor inspection data and ensure outputs are reflected in asset management systems in a timely manner.
  • Track and report progress against the backlog to the Strategic Asset Manager, flagging data quality issues or gaps found during processing.

Asset Data & Integrity

  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the asset database.
  • Review the existing asset database to confirm all known assets, new assets reported through Asset Management Briefs (AMBs), and assets discovered through inspections are updated in the asset management systems.

Inspection & Defect Management (Ongoing)

  • Review and ensure inspections are planned and conducted on time for all assets in the portfolio.
  • Review defects reported against assets to ensure they are directed to maintenance teams or escalated for funding through tactical projects.
  • Review inspection reports and update asset condition in the systems.

Planning & Strategy Support

  • Assist the Asset Manager in managing contractors.
  • Assist the Strategic Asset Manager with forward works planning for the tactical asset management plan.
  • Assist the Strategic Asset Manager in developing asset lifecycle models to produce 3- and 10-year works plans.
  • Assist in creating, reviewing, and updating asset management strategies and plans.

Performance & Communication

  • Responsible for measuring achievements against KPIs
  • Establish and maintain clear communication regarding asset condition and risks with key stakeholders, including client representatives.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the asset management system.

Field Activities

  • Visit asset locations as and when required.
About You:
  • A degree in engineering (civil or other relevant discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience managing and reconciling large volumes of asset condition or inspection data (Essential)
  • Certification in Asset Management (Preferred).
  • Experience and understanding of asset management in an engineering or infrastructure environment.
  • Understanding of ISO 55001 Asset Management.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team and collaborate with various business units.
  • Results driven with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge in MS office suite.
