Job summary

Gate Gourmet is seeking an experienced Assembly Shift Team Leader / Catering Assistant to join our Melbourne Airport team, reporting to the Assembly Manager. This hands-on role will supervise day-to-day Assembly operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and adherence to hygiene standards.

The role operates on a rotating AM/PM roster across a 7-day pattern, requiring strong leadership and a focus on quality and on-time performance.

Qualifications

• High school certificate required.
• Further qualifications in operations, logistics, or food safety advantageous.
• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in high-volume environments such as catering, food production, manufacturing, or logistics.
• Strong understanding of packing standards, dishwashing operations, and HACCP principles.
• Previous inflight catering or airline-related experience is highly desirable.
• Proven leadership, communication, and team engagement skills.
• Strong organisational ability with competent computer skills, including Microsoft 365.
• Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to hygiene, compliance, and on-time performance.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day Assembly operations across Make & Pack, Pick & Pack, and Wash & Pack.
• Lead, coach, and engage teams to meet daily production targets.
• Monitor productivity, labour usage, and operational performance against KPIs.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, WHS, and security requirements.
• Maintain quality standards aligned with customer and business expectations.
• Identify issues, escalate risks, and support corrective actions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise processes and reduce waste.
• Support staff planning, training, and performance management.
