Area Manager, Southern Namadgi National Park (Assistant Director)

Details: Parks and Partnerships provides management responsibilities for Canberra Nature Park, Namadgi National Park, Murrumbidgee River Corridor, Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Molonglo River Reserve, Googong Foreshores, and Lower Cotter Catchment. The day to day management of the forestry and rural areas is also a responsibility of the section.

Overview

The Area Manager of Southern Namadgi National Park is responsible for implementing the Namadgi Plan of Management to facilitate the conservation of environmental and heritage assets, while providing opportunities for public recreation within the Park. The position leads a team of field based staff to deliver an annual operations plan, works closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieved shared objectives, and contributes to the effective management of PCS and CED.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of field-based staff to deliver an annual operations plan.

  • Contribute to the effective management of PCS and CED.
Requirements
  • This position is classified as a Designated Fire Position under the Collective Agreement. Bushfire related activities, including bushfire suppression, are a mandatory component of the position. Appointment/promotion/transfer to the position is conditional upon successful completion of a nationally recognised firefighting task-based fitness assessment.
  • This position may require a pre-employment medical.
Qualifications (Highly Desirable)
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in environmental and/or natural resource management.
