Overview

Aquaculture and Fisheries Scientist (4758754) – Location: Melbourne, Australia. Sector: Science & Research. Salary: $140,000.00 to $170,000.00 per annum. Shrimpl Management Services Pty Ltd is the Australian arm of the global Shrimpl group, a leading aquaculture technology platform delivering end-to-end data, analytics, and finance solutions for shrimp and fish farming industries.

This is a senior, high-impact role responsible for leading applied research in aquaculture and fisheries science. You will work at the intersection of biological performance, ecosystem modelling, and digital monitoring technologies, and help integrate research insights into Shrimpl’s decision-support tools and partner programs. The role will suit someone with deep scientific expertise in aquaculture production systems who thrives in a cross-disciplinary, global innovation environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct applied R&D in aquaculture production systems (e.g. nutrition, health, water quality, growth modelling).
  • Develop scientifically validated models that integrate biological, environmental, and economic data.
  • Lead research partnerships with universities, industry, and government agencies.
  • Translate research into decision-support tools and product features used by farmers and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior scientists and technical analysts within the R&D team.
  • Publish findings and represent Shrimpl at industry and scientific forums.
  • Contribute to grant applications, funding proposals, and internal KPIs.
  • Ensure all research meets biosafety, ethics, and data governance standards.
Qualifications and experience
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in aquaculture, fisheries, or marine/agricultural science, especially in shrimp farms
  • MSc or PhD in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Deep knowledge of aquaculture systems, nutrition, genetics, or ecosystem management
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific modelling, applied research, or digital integration
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis, environmental monitoring (e.g., IoT, GIS, or remote sensing)
  • Track record of cross-sector collaboration (government, academia, NGOs, or industry)
  • Strong communication skills, including scientific writing and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience supervising technical teams or mentoring researchers is highly desirable
