Job summary

Australian Financial Security Authority (AFSA) is seeking an APS 6 Government Lawyer to deliver high-quality legal advice supporting AFSA's regulatory, operational and corporate functions. You will work across a broad range of matters, manage litigation and provide risk-based advice to support sound decision-making.

You will collaborate with Senior and Principal Government Lawyers and stakeholders to identify legal risks and contribute to AFSA's strategic objectives, with flexible working

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws or equivalent qualification is required.
• Admission as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
• Current practising certificate or eligibility to hold one.
• More than two years' experience in legal practice, including litigation, dispute resolution and advisory work.
• Experience working within government, regulatory or public sector environments.
• Knowledge of administrative law, information law, privacy, FOI, insolvency or regulatory law.
• Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting junior legal practitioners.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, timely and risk-based legal advice across regulatory, corporate and operational matters.
• Manage litigation, tribunal proceedings, dispute resolution matters and legal advisory work.
• Prepare legal advice, briefs, submissions, correspondence and court or tribunal documents.
• Build productive stakeholder relationships and contribute to continuous improvement of AFSA's legal services.
