As an APS 4-5 ICT Security Specialist you will be responsible for protecting Cyber Defence Systems Directorates' information systems, networks, and data from cyber security threats. The role supports the implementation and maintenance of security controls, risk management activities, incident response, security monitoring, and compliance in accordance with Australian Government security requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with ICT teams, project managers, business stakeholders, and external partners to strengthen cyber resilience and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and standards. A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created through this process and will remain active for 18 months from the date of this advertisement. The merit pool may be used to fill future ongoing vacancies with similar duties, at various locations across localised regions or nationally.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. Cyber Defence Systems (CDS) manages the ICT infrastructure, engineering, technical support, and governance of the Defence Cyber Security Environment (DCSE).The DCSE provides the ICT platform for the Defence Security Operations Centre team (DSOC) to conduct Defence ICT security, compliance and Cyber operations. These operations cover Defence’s strategic, tactical networks and warfighting networks.
We are seeking a motivated and security-focused ICT professional with a strong understanding of cyber security principles and risk management requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to apply established security policies, procedures, and controls to protect information and ICT systems while contributing to a secure and resilient operating environment.
You will have experience identifying, analysing, and responding to security risks and vulnerabilities, and be capable of providing practical security advice to technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be comfortable working collaboratively within a team, managing competing priorities, and contributing to security compliance, assurance, and continuous improvement activities.
The successful applicant will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex security concepts in a clear and concise manner. You will demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to safeguarding Cyber Defence Systems Directorates' information assets. Experience working within complex organisational environments and applying relevant security frameworks, including information security, protective security and cyber security standards, will be highly regarded.
