Job summary

Busways in Laurieton is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join a close-knit workshop team and begin a four‑year training contract while you learn on the job. You’ll work under supervision, perform basic repairs, and progress through a nationally recognised program with TAFE support.

You will study at TAFE, complete required units on time, and follow safety guidelines as you build a foundation for a durable career in heavy vehicle maintenance.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or above high schooling or tertiary equivalent.
• Good Mathematics, Science and English skills.
• Reliable, punctual, honest, and committed to completing your trade qualification.
• Genuine interest in pursuing a career in the automotive industry.
• Strong focus on safety in the workplace.
• Positive can-do attitude; self-motivated and eager to learn.
• Take direction and show initiative in a fast-paced environment.
• Willing to undergo pre-employment medical and working with children check.
• Must have Australian citizenship, permanent residency or working rights.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, learn the skills required to be part of the Workshop team
• Performing minor repairs and service of vehicles and equipment, in a timely manner, within your skill level and experience, under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson
• Enter into a 4-year training contract within a secure employment environment, undertaking a nationally recognised training program in Heavy Diesel Mechanics - Cert III Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology
• Completing all units of the apprenticeship to the required standards and within the required time frame(s)
• Attending all required TAFE classes under the guidance of your mentors, supervisor and teachers
• Adhering to all Work, Health & Safety requirements whilst performing work duties
