Job summary

Trader House, a Melbourne-based group of acclaimed restaurants and bars, is offering apprentice chef roles across its venues. You will train under experienced chefs and gain hands-on exposure to high-quality cooking, service and product preparation.

You will have access to unique training experiences, including the Monday Kitchen Sessions, where renowned chefs and suppliers share techniques. To be eligible for an apprenticeship or traineeship you must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident

Job description

Trader House is a collective of restaurants, bars, and specialty retail stores by Melbourne-based chef, cookbook author and columnist Andrew McConnell and photographer Jo McGann. Operating in Melbourne are Gimlet, Apollo Inn, Cutler,Supernormal, Cumulus Inc., Marion, Builders Arms Hotel, Meatsmith Heritage Butcher and Morning Market. In 2024, Trader House opened Supernormal and Bar Miette in Brisbane. A new restaurant, Côte Basque, will open in Melbourne in the winter of 2026.

Trader House restaurants are looking for new apprentice chefs.

You will have the opportunity to refine your skills in one of McConnell's acclaimed restaurants - learn from a professional team that is innovative and creative, within one of Australia's leading restaurant groups.

You will train under highly driven, professional chefs who are committed to creating the best quality food, and nurturing talent within their teams. We want to develop you to be our next head chef.

You will gain access to the sought after "Monday Kitchen Sessions", training masterclasses with renowned chefs and suppliers. We have built great relationships with chefs, local farmers and specialised suppliers that come to talk about their craft. This gives you the opportunity to learn directly from the source.
