Job summary

Townsville City Council is offering a 48 months maximum term full-time Apprenticeship for an Apprentice Boilermaker (Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade). The role involves hands-on training in fabrication, repair, and installation, under supervision, building skills with lathes, welding gear and other equipment.

Commencement is February 2027; successful candidates will complete a Nationally Recognised Qualification via TAFE North Queensland, preparing for a long-term engineering

  • Provisional Queensland C class driver’s licence or ability to obtain one.

Position Type: 48 Months Maximum Term Full Time (9 day fortnight, 38 hours/week)
Salary Range: Base Salary $ 55,580 - $73,040 per annum + super, based on schooling level completion, years out of school and age upon commencement.
Location: Boilermaker Workshop - Webb Drive - Bohle

Kick‑start a rewarding trade career in Boilermaking with a hands‑on, competency‑based apprenticeship that puts you at the heart of real‑world engineering work. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will build practical skills through a blend of formal training and on‑the‑job learning in a fast‑paced, technical environment.

You will play an active role in maintaining Council’s mechanical and water/wastewater assets to a high standard, gaining experience in repair, replacement, installation, design and fabrication of plant and equipment. Along the way, you will work with an impressive range of tools and machinery — including lathes, grinding machines, hydraulic presses, and welding gear — developing the skills that define a highly sought‑after trade.

This role includes completing a 4‑year Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaking) through TAFE North Queensland, providing a strong foundation for a long‑term career in engineering and fabrication.

Qualifications And Experience
  • Willingness to be part of, and promote, a positive safety culture whilst adhering to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Minimum completed of Year 10 with passes in English and Mathematics.
  • Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence (or ability to obtain).
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and be positively involved within a team environment.
  • Complete all training and assessment requirements of a Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Boilermaking) as per the provided training plan. This includes attending and participating in structured formal learning at the nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO) as well as keeping an accurate and up to date training record book.
