Job summary

REA Group in Melbourne is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the Content Moderation Platform squad, building AI-powered detection services, APIs and data workflows for safe and trusted content across REA’s marketplace.

You will work across the full moderation lifecycle, with opportunities to influence design, delivery and production support while adopting responsible AI practices. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with modern software engineering practices including automated testing, continuous delivery and collaborative development.
• Experience building production software with TypeScript.
• Experience building software that is maintainable, observable, reliable and scalable.
• Solid understanding of software design patterns, web/app architecture and cloud-based systems.
• Experience with APIs, data pipelines or distributed systems.
• Some exposure to LLMs or AI APIs or a genuine interest in responsible AI in production.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and document high-quality software in line with REA engineering practices.
• Build and improve AI-powered detection services, APIs, data pipelines and tools for content moderation.
• Maintain and improve existing systems through feature development, bug fixes and operational improvements.
• Support production systems, including troubleshooting incidents and on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with engineers, product, design and stakeholders to shape technical direction and deliver reliable moderation outcomes.
• Contribute to planning and design by considering trade-offs, effort, quality and maintainability.
• Look for ways to improve products, technology, and team processes used in moderation.
