Job summary

The Farm in Galong is seeking an AOD Support Worker to be the on-the-ground heart of our residential program, guiding residents through daily responsibilities in a therapeutic community.

You will support medication supervision, risk assessments, case intake, and workshops on relapse prevention, aiming to sustain long-term recovery in a rural setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or Mental Health (or nearing completion).
• Experience in a residential setting or understanding of the Therapeutic Community model.
• Trauma-informed, person-centred framework understanding of addiction.
• Emotional intelligence and physical stamina for rural residential work.
• Current valid Driver’s License and a cleared Working with Children Check (WWCC).

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in and oversee the daily operations of the therapeutic community, including morning meetings, communal meals, and chores.
• Observe residents during activities of daily living, facilitating teachable moments during program-based tasks and shared responsibilities.
• Assist with medication supervision, conduct risk assessments, and maintain high-quality clinical documentation.
• Provide case management and assist with intake of new clients.
• Lead or co-facilitate workshops on a range of interventions including the therapeutic community method, relapse prevention, and domestic violence awareness training.
• Provide immediate support and de-escalation for residents experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges.
• Observe Farm in Galong policies and procedures including all privacy and confidentiality requirements.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs or Mental Health (or nearing completion).

Demonstrated experience working in a residential setting or a strong understanding of the Therapeutic Community (TC) model.

Ability to work from a trauma-informed, person-centred framework with an understanding of the complexities of addiction.

The emotional intelligence and physical stamina to work in a dynamic, rural residential environment.

Current valid Driver’s License and a cleared Working with Children Check (WWCC).
