Job description

Tradewind Australia is currently recruiting for an experienced AOD Program Facilitator to work within a correctional healthcare environment in Melbourne's western suburbs.

This role would suit an AOD professional who enjoys direct client work and group facilitation and is looking to use their experience within the justice and correctional space.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will support individuals in custody who may present with complex substance use, mental health, trauma and offending histories. Your focus will be on reducing AOD-related harm, building practical coping strategies and supporting individuals to make positive changes both during their time in custody and following release.

The Role

As an AOD Program Facilitator, you will provide a combination of assessment, individual intervention, group facilitation and harm reduction education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting AOD assessments and screenings with individuals in custody
  • Facilitating structured group programs focused on harm reduction, drug awareness and relapse prevention
  • Delivering harm reduction and release preparation education, including Naloxone education
  • Developing individual treatment and support plans
  • Supporting individuals to develop practical coping strategies and increase their understanding of substance use
  • Delivering services using trauma-informed, person-centred and recovery-focused approaches
  • Working collaboratively with healthcare, justice and reintegration services
  • Supporting continuity of care and connections with appropriate services following release
  • Maintaining accurate case notes, treatment summaries and program records
  • Participating in multidisciplinary case discussions and treatment planning
  • Working effectively with individuals who may be difficult to engage or have complex support needs
About You

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in AOD and harm reduction who is comfortable working with complex clients within a structured environment.

To be successful, you will ideally have:

  • A relevant qualification in AOD, social work, counselling, psychology, nursing or a related discipline
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Alcohol and Other Drugs will also be considered
  • Previous experience within AOD treatment, harm reduction or recovery support
  • Experience facilitating groups or delivering structured programs
  • Contemporary knowledge of harm minimisation and relapse prevention
  • An understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred practice
  • Strong communication, documentation and case noting skills
  • The ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Confidence working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience within corrections, forensic AOD or the Victorian justice system would be highly regarded
Why Apply?

For AOD professionals interested in moving into forensic or correctional AOD, this is an opportunity to build valuable experience while continuing to deliver meaningful client-facing work.

You will be joining a multidisciplinary environment with access to professional development, supervision and experienced colleagues, while helping individuals develop practical strategies to reduce substance-related harm and improve their chances of successful reintegration into the community.
