About the Opportunity

Fulham Correctional Centre Health Services are accredited with the Australasian Council on Healthcare Standards, providing high quality Primary Health Care to adult male prisoners.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified AOD (Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (MATOD)) Nurse who is seeking a new challenge.

Experience as an AOD (MATOD) Nurse is required.

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, you will be required to assist in delivering the AOD (MATOD) Program.

The AOD (MATOD) Nurse works closely with the medical and nursing staff to assess patients for the program and monitor their ongoing treatment. You will also be providing daily administration clinics of methadone, buprenorphine, and long-acting buprenorphine injections, in a highly secure and supported environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate risk measures are in place, in line with current legislative requirements and revised industry and/or regulatory updates
  • Treat patients with problems within their professional capabilities
  • Administer the AOD (MATOD) program within current best and safe practice guidelines.
  • Develops individual health management plans with patients, as necessary
  • Apply knowledge of drugs and therapeutics in administering medication
  • Act as a liaison with pharmacy supplier to ensure appropriate and timely supply of medications
  • Participate in health promotion and educational programs for both staff and prisoners
  • Oversee Enrolled Nurses supporting the program
  • Ensure GEO’s primary goal of reducing reoffending is at the core of everything you do

About You

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and driven AOD Registered Nurse, with a strong clinical focus.

To be successful you will possess:

  • Current Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience and understanding of opiate treatment programs.
  • Alcohol and drug counselling experience and / or post-graduate qualifications.
  • Interest in health promotion and education.
  • Ability to work without direct, immediate supervision in performing nursing diagnosis, and providing appropriate follow-through treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, EEO / EOWA and Workplace Health and Safety principles.
  • High degree of competency in using Windows based computer programs including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook.
