Job summary

The Salvation Army Australia is seeking an experienced AOD Intake & ThroughCare Nurse to join the Geelong Withdrawal Unit in Corio, VIC. This fixed-term part-time role (12 months, 30.4 hours per week) provides clinical nursing support across the treatment journey, from referral to discharge and ongoing care.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to promote continuity of care, respond to medical and mental health needs, and support recovery goals.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary nursing degree (RN) with current registration.
  • Experience in AOD nursing and withdrawal management preferred.
  • Postgraduate qualifications in relevant discipline are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centred clinical support through the treatment journey from referral to discharge.
  • Assess medical, mental health and psychosocial needs, with escalation when required.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to implement care and withdrawal plans.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and health education sessions for recovery goals.
  • Partner with hospitals, GPs, mental health services and community organisations for coordinated care.
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care and flexible support to meet operational needs.

About The Role

As the AOD Intake & ThroughCare Nurse, you will provide clinical nursing support across the Geelong Withdrawal Unit, guiding participants through every stage of their treatment journey, from referral and assessment to withdrawal treatment, discharge and ongoing care. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will promote continuity of care, support recovery goals, and help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing alcohol and other drug (AOD) and co-occurring mental health challenges.

Reporting to the Nurse Team Leader, this is a fixed-term part-time position, contracted for 12 months 30.4 hours per week, based on-site in Corio, VIC.

Conditions

Compensation is in accordance with the Geelong Withdrawal Unit - Enterprise Agreement.

How You Will Make An Impact
  • Provide person-centred clinical support to participants throughout their treatment journey, from referral and assessment through to discharge and transition into ongoing care
  • Assess and respond to medical, mental health and psychosocial needs, ensuring timely intervention and appropriate escalation where required
  • Collaborate with participants and the multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and review individualised care and withdrawal management plans
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups and deliver health education sessions to support participants' recovery, wellbeing and treatment goals
  • Build strong partnerships with hospitals, GPs, mental health services, residential rehabilitation providers and community organisations to ensure seamless, coordinated care
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality nursing care within the Geelong Withdrawal Unit, providing flexible clinical support in response to operational requirements
What You Will Bring
  • A Tertiary Degree or equivalent in Nursing
  • A current DIV 1 Certificate with unrestricted AHPRA registration
  • Experience in clinical AOD nursing, particularly withdrawal management and relapse prevention
  • Post graduate qualifications in relevant discipline (desirable)
  • A current Employee Working with Children Check
  • A current VIC Driver's Licence
