Australian BioResources (ABR) is a state-of-the-art facility that specializes in breeding and maintaining high-quality laboratory mice for medical researchers across NSW and throughout Australia. Located in Moss Vale, approximately 1.5 hours south of Sydney, ABR offers an opportunity to contribute to vital medical research by caring for research mice. As an ABR Animal Technician, your primary responsibilities will focus on ensuring the welfare of the mice. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Providing high-quality care to maintain animals in a healthy state, including feeding, watering, and cage cleaning.
  2. Monitoring animal health and welfare.
  3. Checking for pregnancy and litters born.
  4. Preparing mice for transport to facilities across Australia.
  5. Setting up breeding pairs under the guidance of senior staff.
  6. Collecting samples for genotyping and health monitoring.
  7. Maintaining accurate records using our online Animal Management System.

To succeed in this role, you will need to:

  5. Be capable of working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  7. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, complying with ABR policies and suggesting improvements when necessary.
  8. Follow ABR safety rules, WHS & wellbeing directives, procedures, standards, and regulations, actively working to improve safe working practices.
  9. Comply with all ABR quality assurance programs, animal ethics, and quarantine protocols.
  10. Have your own transportation.
  11. Be available to work according to the ABR Animal Technician roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Previous experience working with animals or a related qualification is highly advantageous. A basic understanding of laboratory animal husbandry, housing, breeding requirements, or basic manipulation skills (such as injections or euthanasia) would be beneficial.

The salary ranges from $62,100 to $67,600 per annum, depending on experience, plus 11.5% superannuation. Benefits include salary packaging, ongoing training and development opportunities, paid parental leave, discounted health insurance, and lifestyle discounts with community partners.
