REA Group in Melbourne (Flatmates.com.au) seeks an experienced Android Engineer to design, build, and maintain features in Kotlin for our share accommodation platform. You will work with product, design, and SME partners to deliver value across discovery to release and support.

The role emphasizes quality, performance, accessibility and end-to-end ownership. You’ll collaborate in a dynamic, agile team, contribute to platform components, and explore AI-enhanced engineering to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• Solid Android experience (around 3-5 years) with Kotlin as your primary language.
• Strong UI engineering skills, including motion/animation, accessibility, and performance awareness.
• Pragmatic testing and continuous delivery mindset.
• Product engineering mindset: prioritise user value, own outcomes, and learn what’s needed to ship.
• Collaborative, low-ego communication; comfortable pairing and giving/receiving feedback.
• Willingness to learn and contribute beyond Android (basic backend/web/iOS).
• Curiosity and practice in AI-augmented engineering to improve efficiency and quality.
• Experience working in a dynamic, agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Android features in Kotlin, from discovery through to release and ongoing support.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and SMEs to shape scope, trade-offs, and incremental delivery that maximises user value.
• Write high-quality, testable code; participate in code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing.
• Own features end-to-end: functionality, performance, accessibility, analytics, experimentation, and release readiness.
• Be curious and adaptable: at times you may learn and contribute beyond Android to move features forward, with support from peers and the broader mobile community.
• Contribute to shared mobile platform components and standards; collaborate with the broader REA mobile community.
• Participate in release cadence, triage, and production support; improve observability and reliability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.
