Job summary

IAG is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions using GCP and dbt, enabling smarter decision‑making across the business.

You'll work with stakeholders and our Data Product team to translate business requirements into impactful data products, ensure quality, and automate processes in a modern tech stack. This permanent role offers a flexible hybrid work model near major centres in Australia and New Zealand.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years in data engineering or analytics engineering.
  • Intermediate skills in SQL, Python, and DBT.
  • Experience with BigQuery and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience implementing AI‑driven data testing, optimisation, and governance tools.
  • Familiar with Agile methodologies and DevOps, including CI/CD and Git.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor data pipelines and data products to ensure accurate, timely data for business users.
  • Optimize data models and pipeline orchestration for reliability and performance.
  • Investigate data quality issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Manage releases and deployments across higher environments with change governance.
  • Communicate release activities, risks and outcomes to stakeholders and coordinate follow-ups.
  • Create and maintain accurate technical, operational and support documentation.

You'll play a critical role in designing, building, and optimising scalable data solutions that enable smarter decision-making across the business. Working closely with stakeholders and our Data Product team, you'll develop and support data pipelines, APIs, and data models using GCP and dbt, ensuring our data products are reliable, secure, high quality, and easy to use. From translating complex business requirements into impactful solutions to automating processes, improving data quality, and driving projects through the full product lifecycle, you'll have the opportunity to make a tangible impact while working with modern technologies and a team passionate about innovation and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

Monitor data pipelines and data products to ensure they deliver accurate, timely, and accessible data to business users.

Optimise data models and pipeline orchestration jobs to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and performance.

Investigate data quality and pipeline issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.

Manage and execute releases and deployments across higher environments, ensuring changes are thoroughly validated and implemented in accordance with change governance and release management processes.

Communicate release activities, operational updates, risks, and outcomes clearly to stakeholders, providing timely notifications and coordinating any required follow-up actions.

Create and maintain accurate technical, operational, and support documentation to enable effective knowledge sharing, ongoing maintenance, and smooth transition into business-as-usual support.

This is a permanent role and offer a flexible hybrid work model based near any of our major centres across New Zealand and Australia.

What You’ll Bring

2-5 years in data engineering or analytics engineering, with a strong background in software development.

Intermediate skills in SQL, Python, and DBT. Experience with Big Query and the Google Cloud Platform is essential.

Demonstrated experience in implementing AI-driven data testing, optimisation, and governance tools.

Well-versed in Agile methodologies and DevOps practices, including experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems like Git.

Strong analytical and problem solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to creating innovative data solutions.
