NSW Health's Sydney Local Health District is seeking a Registered Nurse to support anaesthetic teams at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The role involves preparing environment, equipment, and patient in theatre, and collaborating with the anaesthetist.

Two rosters apply: temporary full-time 38 hours weekly or temporary part-time minimum 24 hours weekly through July 2027. Applicants must hold current AHPRA registration and be eligible to work in Australia.

• Has a current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Evidence of participation in professional development and willingness to share expertise with colleagues.
• Demonstrates experience in Anaesthetics.
• Able to work a 7 day rotating roster.
• All candidates must have full working rights within Australia.

What you'll be doing

The role of the Registered Nurse as an assistant to the anaesthetist includes:

• Preparation of the environment and equipment for the patient.
• Preparation of equipment for administering the anaesthetic.
• Reception of the patient into the anaesthesia/operating room, establishing rapport with the patient by asking and answering questions.
• Participation in Anaesthesia Check-in processes (eg as per WHO Surgical Safety Checklist) including checking identification and consent depending on institutional requirements.
• Participation in other safety checks such as regional anaesthesia block time-out processes.
• Communication of relevant patient information to the other members of the intra-operative team, including nurses and doctors.
• For each case, having a shared understanding with the anaesthetist of the planned anaesthesia approach and alternatives, including equipment requirements.
• Assistance with patient preparation and monitoring, and ensure the patient’s physical and psychological safety, and comfort.
• Assist the anaesthetist as required throughout and at the end of the procedure including during emergence and transfer or any otehr emergencies arise during the case.
