Job summary

Morson Edge is seeking a Grid Connection Manager to own the connection outcome across a portfolio of utility-scale BESS and renewables projects in the NEM. You will lead strategy through R1/R2 and registration, interfacing with AEMO and NSPs and ensuring milestones are met.

You will also shape the in-house GPS capability, building the team and directing modelling consultants, while providing clear challenge and commercial insight to keep projects on track.

Qualifications

• Experience taking utility-scale projects through NEM connection processes (5.3.4A, GPS, R1/R2).
• Established relationships with AEMO and at least one NSP.
• Experience directing modelling consultants and managing programme.
• Judgement to know which technical issues to fight and which to concede.

Grid Connection Manager - Utility-Scale BESS and Renewables

This is a role for someone who wants to own the connection outcome, not run the models.

Our client is an established renewable energy developer with a utility-scale battery storage and hybrid pipeline across the NEM. They are bringing grid connection capability in-house and need a leader to run it across the portfolio.

The role

You will lead grid connection across multiple projects at once, from early connection strategy through R1 and R2 to registration. You will be the person AEMO and the NSPs deal with, and the person the business relies on to know where every connection stands and what could slow it down.

You will also build something. The business wants in-house GPS capability rather than depending entirely on consultants, and you will shape what that looks like, how big it gets and who joins it.

What you will do

• Lead the R1 and R2 process across the project pipeline

• Build the in-house GPS capability and grow the team around it

• Run the issue trackers and keep connection milestones on trackAdvise development and investment teams on connection risk, timing and cost

What this is not

This is not a hands-on modelling role. You need to understand PSCAD and PSS/E well enough to challenge a consultant's results and defend a position with AEMO, but your job is to lead the work, not produce it.

What you will bring

• A track record taking utility-scale projects through the NEM connection process, including 5.3.4A, GPS negotiation and R1 and R2
• Established working relationships with AEMO and at least one NSP
• Experience directing modelling consultants and holding them to programme
• The judgement to know which technical issues to fight and which to concede
• A background in power systems, whether from a developer, consultancy, NSP or AEMO
