Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Senior Open Pit Mine Surveyor in Western Australia. Lead a team of surveyors, overseeing production surveys and ensuring accurate governance to support safe mining operations.

The role blends field and office work, including UAV operations, end-of-month reporting, grade control, and coordination with geology and technical services. WA Authorised Mine Surveyor status and 5+ years of open pit experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Surveying.
• WA Authorised Mine Surveyor (Grade 1 or 2).
• Minimum 5 years' mine surveying experience within open pit operations.
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience using Trimble RTK GPS, Trimble Total Stations, UAV platforms, Surpac and Trimble Business Centre.
• Current Manual C Class Driver's Licence.
• National Police Clearance or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Surveyors and Survey Assistants across site.
• Coordinate and review production survey activities.
• Complete end-of-week and end-of-month reporting.
• Perform volume calculations, pit surveys and stockpile reporting.
• Oversee ore markups and delineation activities.
• Set-out and pickups for grade control and resource drilling.
• Conduct blast hole surveys and volume reporting.
• Execute UAV operations and photogrammetry processing.
• Monitor slope stability and report pit wall movements.
• Install and monitor prisms and geotechnical equipment.
• Maintain accurate site plans, lease boundaries, and survey records.
• Ensure mining activities follow approved designs and liaise with mining, geology and technical services teams.

Senior Open Pit Mine Surveyor 8:6 FIFO from Perth | Leadership Opportunity | Long-Life Gold Operation

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Open Pit Mine Surveyor to join a growing gold mining operation in Western Australia.

Reporting to the Mining Manager, this position will lead a team of Surveyors and Survey Assistants across multiple operational areas while providing technical expertise and survey governance to support safe and efficient mining activities.

This role offers an excellent balance of field and office-based responsibilities, including leadership, UAV operations, end-of-month reporting, production support, geotechnical monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role As the Senior Open Pit Mine Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing a range of surveying activities across the operation while ensuring high standards of accuracy, safety and compliance are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Surveyors and Survey Assistants.
• Coordinate and review production survey activities across site.
• Completion of end-of-week and end-of-month reporting.
• Volume calculations, pit surveys and stockpile reporting.
• Ore markups and delineation activities.
• Grade control and resource drilling set-out and pickups.
• Blast hole surveys and volume reporting.
• Conduct UAV operations and photogrammetry processing.
• Slope stability monitoring and reporting of pit wall movements.
• Installation and monitoring of prisms and geotechnical monitoring equipment.
• Maintain accurate site plans, lease boundaries and survey records.
• Ensure mining activities are completed in accordance with approved designs.
• Liaise closely with mining, geology and technical services teams.

About You To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical capability combined with proven leadership experience within open pit mining environments.

Essential Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Surveying.
• WA Authorised Mine Surveyor (Grade 1 or Grade 2).
• Minimum 5 years' mine surveying experience within open pit operations.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience using:

  • Trimble Total Stations
  • DJI UAV platforms
  • Surpac
  • Trimble Business Centre
• Current Manual C Class Driver's Licence.
• National Police Clearance or ability to obtain.

Desirable

• Agisoft Metashape experience.
• PPK processing software experience.
• Remote Pilot Licence (RePL).
• Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC).
• Experience with UAV data processing workflows.
