Job summary

Grampians Community Health seeks an Alcohol & Other Drug Counsellor to deliver high-quality, trauma-informed interventions to individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drug use.

The role is permanent, part-time (22.8 hours per week) and can be based in Stawell or Ararat, working within the Counselling & AOD team to collaborate with related programs and provide compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Counselling or related degree is required.
• Certificate IV in Mental Health and AOD (or willingness to obtain).
• Membership with ACA, PACFA, AASW or AHPRA is mandatory.
• Experience with AOD treatment and trauma-informed practice is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, trauma-informed counselling to individuals and families affected by AOD use.
• Work as part of the Counselling & AOD team and collaborate with related programs.
• Conduct assessments, provide case coordination and maintain clinical judgement.
• Contribute to culturally safe practice and support diverse client groups.

About the position

The Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Counsellor delivers high quality, evidence based and trauma informed therapeutic interventions to individuals and/or families impacted by alcohol & other drug use.

This position forms part of the Counselling & AOD team and collaborates with related programs, as required.

Skills and experience

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma in Counselling or Tertiary Degree in Counselling, Social Work or related fields.
• Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) or willing to obtain

Mandatory

• Membership with ACA, PACFA, AASW, AHPRA etc.

Desirable

• Strong understanding of alcohol & other drug (AOD) treatment, harm reduction and behaviour change models.
• Experience working with diverse communities, including involuntary clients.
• Knowledge of trauma informed practice and cultural safety.
• Strong assessment and clinical judgement.
• Experience providing counselling.
• Skills of assessment, case co-ordination and current alcohol & other drug (AOD) knowledge.
