Job summary
The GEO Group at Fulham Correctional Centre in regional Victoria is seeking a suitably qualified Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Specialist. The role focuses on harm reduction and helping prisoners access prison-based AOD programs to support recovery.
The successful candidate will facilitate group-based programs, develop coping strategies and relapse prevention plans, and work collaboratively to create a supportive, rehabilitative environment.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or relevant AOD qualification is required.
- Certificate IV in AOD or Diploma in AOD is desirable.
- Experience in AOD screening, assessment, case work or program delivery.
- Commitment to disadvantaged populations and complex needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a complex environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy and cultural awareness.
- Resilience.
Responsibilities
- Support prisoners to access prison-based AOD programs and services.
- Focus on harm minimisation and relapse prevention planning.

OurAlcohol and Other DrugSpecialists support prisoners to access prison-based drug and alcohol programs and services to support their recovery.The role has a particular focus on harm minimisation and facilitating programs and services that support increased awareness of harm reduction strategies both in custody and post-release.This role will see you also facilitating group-based programs that increase self-efficacy through the development of effective coping strategies and relapse prevention planning.
To be successful inthis role you will have:
- A health, social or behavioral science undergraduate degree, a Certificate IV in AOD, Diploma in AOD, or extensive AOD experience
- Experience working in the AOD sector in either screening and assessment, case work, or program delivery
- A desire to make a difference to the lives of people who may experience disadvantage, have challenging behaviours and complex needs
- Experience working collaboratively with others in a complex environment
- Ability to embrace change and continuous improvement
