Job summary

Swordfish is seeking a Software Engineer with strong applied AI/ML capability to join our Defence-focused engineering team in Adelaide. This role emphasizes turning research and algorithms into robust, maintainable software with sound engineering practices and security-minded development.

You will work in a multidisciplinary Agile team, translating complex AI concepts into production systems, while ensuring quality, performance, security and reliability in real-world deployments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Fundamentals across architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment.
• Experience applying AI/ML techniques in software systems.
• Programming with modern languages and design patterns.
• Ability to critically evaluate AI approaches and outputs.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design and deliver high-quality software within a multidisciplinary Agile team.
• Design, develop, test and integrate AI-enabled software systems.
• Translate research concepts into robust engineered solutions.
• Work with researchers, engineers, product owners and clients to understand requirements.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies with engineering oversight.
• Contribute to peer reviews and knowledge sharing.
