Job summary

Westpac is seeking an Executive Manager for AI Science in the Sydney area. The role focuses on leading the craft, setting standards and building enterprise-scale AI capabilities across Business Banking & Wealth.

You will champion rigorous design, ensure privacy, security and explainability, and guide squads toward dependable, ethical AI implementation. You will work closely with AI practice, technology, and operations to elevate technical leadership, validate models, and drive high-impact AI

Qualifications

• Must have deep hands-on AI Science expertise and ability to set technical bar.
• Experience with predictive modelling, causal inference, and experimentation.
• Practical experience with LLMs, retrieval and agentic workflows.
• Proficiency in MLOps, LLMOps, monitoring and recovery patterns.
• Strong grounding in fairness, explainability, AI controls and responsible release decisions.

Responsibilities

• Convert portfolio priorities into practical technical capability plans across lending, servicing and advice.
• Own the technical design and methodology for complex modelling and agentic AI decisions.
• Set model and agent acceptance criteria including factuality and failure-mode testing.
• Lift data quality, leakage prevention, temporal validation and explainability across customer segments.
• Build reusable model and agent patterns, shared evaluation systems and peer-review routines.
• Embed AI risk, privacy and security controls with clear assumptions and approvals.
• Coach AI professionals across squads and grow Craft Senior Managers as credible leaders.
• Partner across AI practice, Technology and Operations to strengthen lifecycle quality and monitoring.
