Job summary

Linktree is seeking a strategic Head of Operations Engineering to own the AI platform, pipelines, and cost controls while enabling Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Support to use AI effectively. The role blends platform leadership with internal enablement across Melbourne or Sydney offices, with options for remote work within AU.

You will mentor engineers, drive governance around data and cost, and shape decisions on build vs buy while advancing AI maturity across the organization.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years in ML/AI engineering, data platform, or AI operations with production ownership.
• Experience running AI/ML systems in production: pipelines, versioning, evaluation, monitoring, incident response.
• Fluency with modern LLM tooling and practical cost, latency, context limits considerations.
• Track record of internal AI adoption: enablement, tooling, and changing how teams work.
• Strong build-vs-buy judgment and pragmatic decision-making with incomplete information.

Responsibilities

• Own the platform that AI runs on: pipelines, versioning, evaluation harnesses, monitoring, rollback.
• Define evaluation standards for AI features before/after launch to ensure measurable outcomes.
• Manage AI economics: cost, latency, and reliability as key metrics.
• Drive internal AI adoption: tooling and enablement for Product, Engineering, Marketing, Support.
• Govern data handling, vendor risk, and pre-launch evaluation with proportionate controls.
• Collaborate with Data leadership to sequence AI investments with roadmap and financial model.
• Make build-vs-buy decisions and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and analysts working on AI surfaces to raise operational standards.
