Job summary

Zurich is seeking an AI Engineer to join the ML/AI Engineering chapter in Australia. You will build agentic AI capabilities, design secure APIs, and work across discovery, design, build and operation within a regulated environment to support our transition to a digital insurer.

You will collaborate with product, design and engineering teams, apply guardrails and observability, and help deliver scalable AI solutions while maintaining security and cost discipline.

Qualifications

• Production experience building AI agents using modern frameworks and tools
• Professional software engineering experience with AI/LLM systems in production
• Strong AWS engineering capabilities across multiple services
• Full-stack development with TS/Node.js/Python and React/Next.js
• Experience designing REST/GraphQL APIs and authentication patterns
• Applied experience in AI evaluation, guardrails, observability, cost management, and secure DevSecOps delivery

Responsibilities

• Deliver production‑grade agentic AI solutions across discovery, experimentation, design, build and operation.
• Apply and improve reusable engineering patterns, shared services and guardrails for AI delivery.
• Implement evaluation, observability and cost-management frameworks to improve AI performance and reliability.
• Design secure APIs and interfaces connecting large language models with core enterprise systems.
• Embed DevSecOps, automated testing and secure‑by‑design practices throughout the AI lifecycle.
• Partner with product, design, SMEs and engineers to translate needs into deployable AI capability.

As an AI Engineer in our ML/AI Engineering chapter, you'll help build the agentic AI capability that enables teams across Zurich to turn promising ideas into secure, reliable solutions. You'll work across the full engineering lifecycle, creating reusable services and patterns that make AI delivery safer, faster and more consistent.

This is a hands‑on opportunity to solve meaningful customer and business problems while helping shape how AI is engineered and operated in a regulated environment. Your work will directly support Zurich's ambition to become Australia's leading digital insurer.

You will also be responsible for the following:

• Deliver production‑grade agentic AI solutions across discovery, experimentation, design, build and operation.
• Apply and improve reusable engineering patterns, shared services and technical guardrails for AI delivery.
• Implement evaluation, observability and cost‑management frameworks to improve the performance and reliability of AI solutions.
• Design secure APIs and interfaces that connect large language models with core enterprise systems.
• Embed DevSecOps, automated testing and secure‑by‑design practices throughout the AI delivery lifecycle.
• Partner with product, design, subject matter experts and engineers to translate customer and business needs into deployable AI capability.

You are naturally curious and enjoy turning complex, ambiguous problems into practical solutions. You bring a strong delivery mindset, communicate technical trade‑offs clearly and build trusted relationships with stakeholders across product, design and engineering.

In order to be successful, you will have the following:

• Production experience building AI agents using modern frameworks such as LangGraph, AWS AgentCore and MCP.
• Professional software engineering experience, including designing, building and operating AI or large language model‑based systems in production.
• Strong AWS engineering capability across services such as Bedrock, Lambda, API Gateway, SageMaker, ECS, S3 and IAM.
• Full‑stack development capability using TypeScript, Node.js and Python, with React or Next.js frontend experience.
• Experience designing REST or GraphQL APIs and applying authentication patterns including OAuth, OIDC, JWT and IAM.
• Applied experience in AI evaluation, guardrails, observability, cost management, CI/CD automation and secure DevSecOps delivery.
