Job summary

Open Universities Australia is hiring a software engineer to join cross-functional product teams, shaping the experience for students and university partners using TypeScript, React, Node.js and AWS. You’ll own code with AI-assisted tooling and help improve quality and reliability across our web systems.

You'll collaborate on design, development, testing and deployment, employing microservices, API design, CI/CD and serverless patterns while keeping production systems running and sharing

Qualifications

• Experience using AI coding tools in production
• Strong planning and breakdown of problems
• Strong code reviewing skills
• Familiarity with our stack: TypeScript, React, Node.js
• Knowledge of web architecture patterns and CI/CD

Responsibilities

• Collaborating closely with our product development team to understand requirements and plan development tasks
• Working with AI coding agents as a normal part of how you build – owning the code you ship
• Reviewing code closely
• Designing, developing, testing, and deploying web-based systems using TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Node.js, and React
• Applying modern web architecture patterns such as microservices, API design, contract testing, containerisation, test automation, and serverless architecture
• Utilising modern software development techniques like test-driven development, deployment automation, and CI/CD
• Supporting production systems and maintaining existing products – joint ownership of support and maintenance
• Sharing knowledge and continuously honing your technical skills
