Job summary

Services Australia is seeking an AI Cloud Engineer at EL1 to provide technical leadership across AI, cloud, data, and security domains. You will collaborate with software, cloud, and data engineers to deliver scalable and secure AI-enabled services within compliant, secure cloud environments.

Under limited direction, you will guide complex initiatives, influence strategic technology choices, and mentor staff while aligning with APS values and operational resilience requirements.

AI Cloud Engineer, EL1

The AI Cloud Engineer provides technical leadership and specialist advice in the design, development, deployment and operation of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions within secure cloud environments. The role works across software engineering, cloud engineering, data engineering, AI, and machine learning disciplines to deliver scalable, secure and reliable AI-enabled services.

Working under limited direction, the role leads complex technical activities, contributes to strategic technology decisions and provides expert guidance on AI technologies, cloud platforms, automation, security and operational resilience. The role works closely with multidisciplinary teams and business stakeholders to deliver digital solutions aligned with agency priorities. The role exercises a considerable degree of independence, provides leadership across technical initiatives and contributes to the ongoing advancement of cloud and AI capabilities within the agency.

The key duties of the position include:

• Lead the design, development, deployment and support of AI-enabled applications, platforms and services.
• Develop and maintain scalable, secure and reliable cloud infrastructure, engineering patterns, automation capabilities and DevSecOps practices supporting AI and digital solutions.
• Lead software development, system integration and continuous delivery activities in accordance with endorsed development standards and methodologies.
• Review and analyse technical requirements, develop solution designs and provide specialist technical advice to address complex business and technology challenges.
• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues affecting development, testing and production environments, ensuring service reliability and operational resilience.
• Ensure solutions comply with security, privacy, architecture, governance and software development standards and contribute to ongoing technology improvement and innovation.
• Prepare and maintain technical designs, implementation plans, operational procedures, reports and briefing material for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Lead and mentor technical staff, build capability, manage stakeholder relationships and promote workplace practices aligned with the APS Values and APS Code of Conduct.

Eligibility

Essential Requirements:Security Clearance level required: Negative Vetting Level 1 (or ability to obtain and maintain).

In accordance with section 22(6) of the Public Service Act 1999, Services Australia requires applicants to be Australian citizens to be eligible for employment with Services Australia.
