Job summary

Hardi Aged Care in Blacktown is seeking a reliable General Maintenance Officer to join our full-time team. You will maintain a safe and well-presented aged care environment, carry out planned and reactive maintenance, and coordinate with external contractors as needed.

This role requires hands-on skills in minor repairs, painting, gardening and upkeep, with a focus on resident comfort and safety. A current driver's license, police check and screening requirements are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in general maintenance or a relevant trade.
• Experience in aged care, healthcare or residential care is highly regarded.
• Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
• Practical skills in repairs, painting, gardening and facility upkeep.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing maintenance requests.
• Good communication and respectful interaction with residents.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs, painting, patching and handyman duties throughout the facility.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and respond promptly to maintenance requests.
• Maintain the facility's grounds, gardens and outdoor areas, including mowing, trimming and general upkeep.
• Ensure resident rooms, communal areas, equipment and building facilities are maintained to a high standard.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, potential hazards and safety concerns in a timely manner.
• Complete scheduled maintenance tasks and maintain accurate records using the internal maintenance management system.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with WHS requirements, infection prevention and control procedures, and relevant aged care standards.
• Coordinate with external contractors and service providers when required, ensuring work is completed safely and cost‑effectively.
• Carry out maintenance activities with minimal disruption to residents, staff and daily care services.
• Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance storage areas in a safe, clean and organised condition.
• Respect residents' privacy, dignity and comfort when undertaking maintenance work within the aged care environment.
