Job summary

Townsville Aboriginal & Islander Health Service is seeking a Youth Support Worker to provide afterhours, diversionary and bail support services for at-risk young people in Townsville. The role involves engagement, case planning, and collaboration with the Lighthouse and local partners.

The position is part-time or casual with shifts across days, evenings, weekends and public holidays, until June 2028. Successful applicants will have a Certificate IV in Youth Work or related field and pass checks

The Lighthouse Afterhours Diversionary and Bail Support Service

is seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Support Workers to join our team. Working within a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive environment, you will engage with at-risk young people during afterhours, providing guidance, connection, and support when it is needed most.

We are currently recruiting for Part-Time and Casual positions (until June 2028), offering the opportunity to be part of meaningful, community-led work that creates lasting change for young people and contributes to stronger, safer communities.

About this Opportunity

As a Youth Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing appropriate care, client programs and activities, and provision of case planning and case management tasks as directed by coordinator.

All services will be delivered in line with the programs Duty of Care and align with the established protocols of the organisation and the Service Agreement. This role will work collaboratively with Community Gro Upper Ross Youth Hub to redirect high-risk youth to the Lighthouse/Bail Support and also support referrals to TAIHS programs.

Key Qualifications & Experience

• Qualification/s relevant to the field of Youth Work or a similar discipline. Minimum of a Certificate IV in Youth Work / Community Services OR willingness to obtain
• Previous experience within the youth sector providing advocacy and support to young people
• Demonstrated ability to operate within a case management model
• Demonstrated understanding of the barriers and issues faced by young people
• Demonstrated ability to provide activities and supports that genuinely interest and engage young people, empowering them to make positive choices

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging programs and activities that support healthy lifestyles, personal development, life skills, education, employment readiness, and positive wellbeing outcomes.
• Build strong, trusting relationships with young people, encouraging positive choices and reducing engagement in risk-taking or criminal behaviours.
• Contribute to strengths-based assessments, case planning, referrals, advocacy, and ongoing client support.
• Monitor client progress and maintain accurate case notes, records, and service delivery information.
• Prepare activity reports and contribute to program evaluation and outcome reporting.
• Work collaboratively with the Practice Lead, community partners, and key stakeholders to coordinate supports and achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable young people.
• Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with organisational policies, privacy requirements, and duty of care obligations.
• Ability to work across varying locations following a work roster that includes Days, Evenings, Active Nights, Weekends and Public Holidays

Required Licences and Checks

• Offer of the position may be subject to a pre-employment medical assessment to support the selection process.
• Ability to pass a National Criminal History Check (No Serious/Criminal/Court Records)
• Current Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check)
• Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
• Proof of qualifications (or enrolment) and current registration (as appropriate) are to be provided prior to commencement of employment
• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner
