Job summary

The Australian Federal Police is recruiting Protective Service Officers, including ACT Community Policing based in Canberra, with priority locations to speed up recruitment. Successful applicants enter a structured training path, with 4–6 months of paid training at the College and a nationally recognised qualification such as POL50124 or POL41225.

Sworn officers will wear a uniform, carry a firearm, and have law enforcement powers.

Qualifications

  • Be an Australian citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a valid Australian driver’s licence (P Plates accepted).
  • Minimum educational level of Year 10 Certificate or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Apply for priority locations to progress through recruitment.
  • Complete paid training at the College (4–6 months).
  • Earn a nationally recognised qualification: POL50124 Diploma of Policing or POL41225 Certificate IV in Protective Services.
  • Graduate, be sworn in, and commence operational duties.

  • ACT Community Policing (based in Canberra)

What does being an AFP Recruit mean?

As an AFP Recruit, you'll enter a structured training pathway to become asworn officer. Sworn officers are frontline AFP members who wear a uniform, carry a firearm, and have legislated law enforcement powers.If successful, you will:

  • Complete 4 - 6 months of paid training at the College
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification:
    • POL50124 Diploma of Policingor
    • POL41225 Certificate IV in Protective Services
  • Undertake practical training including defensive tactics and driver training
  • Graduate, be sworn in, and commence operational duties

Salary & Contacts Information

AFP Band & Salary - As a new recruit, you are paid to train, starting from $64,754.00. Following graduation, your salary will increase as per our Enterprise Agreement (EA) . You can view further information on entry level recruit salaries and other benefits on our website .
