Workplace Type: Onsite

Newmont produces metals the world needs - safely, responsibly and with care for people, communities and the environment. With a 100+ year history, we continue to shape the future of mining through innovation and strong operational performance. By joining our inclusive, world-class team, you can help shape the future of mining and make a meaningful difference. Cadia is a major gold and copper mining operation in central New South Wales, about 25 kilometres from the city of Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. The site is known for the Cadia East underground mine – one of the world’s largest gold deposits – which uses innovative block caving methods to produce gold doré and gold-rich copper concentrate. Unlike remote mines, Cadia is a residential (drive-in, drive-out) operation where many employees live with their families in nearby communities, enjoying the Orange region’s excellent lifestyle and amenities. Cadia’s team has a collaborative culture built around safety, innovation and community partnership. We proudly support local towns through jobs and in‑kind contributions and even run an Indigenous Buddy Programme to welcome and mentor new Indigenous employees. Working at Cadia gives you all the growth opportunities of a Tier‑1 mine within a friendly regional setting – a place where you can advance your skills, be home with family, and contribute to both Newmont’s success and the prosperity of local communities.

Your Impact

The Advisor Tailings and Water Operations role will support the safe, efficient and compliant operation of Newmont's Tailings & Water facilities at Cadia. Working within the Tailings and Water operations team, you'll drive continuous improvement through risk management, procedure development and operational performance analysis, helping optimise safe tailings deposition, water management and coarse sand placement activities.

As Part of Our Team, You Will
  • Develop, review and maintain operational procedures, JSEAs, risk assessments and safe systems of work to support Tailings & Water operations.
  • Facilitate risk assessments, operational risk workshops and field verifications to strengthen critical controls and reduce operational risk exposure.
  • Analyse tailings deposition performance, coarse sand production and operational trends to identify opportunities for improved safety, efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with planning and technical teams to ensure deposition strategies and operational plans are practical, efficient and safe to execute.
  • Support workforce capability by identifying competency gaps, promoting continuous improvement and assisting with procedural compliance across operational teams.
Prerequisites for Success in This Role

The Tailings & Water team is seeking an individual who may fit within a diverse range of skills and experiences. We recognise that candidates may not possess expertise across all areas listed below, and development and growth within the role is expected. If you meet most, or even some, of the criteria outlined, we encourage you to apply.

  • Demonstrated on site experience within mining, tailings, operational excellence, process improvement, safety, planning or technical operations environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and operational performance reporting capabilities.
  • Excellent technical writing, stakeholder engagement and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Exposure to Tailings Storage Facility operations, water management, operational planning, risk facilitation or incident investigations will be highly regarded.
Your Work Environment

This permanent position is offered on a 5 days on, 2 days off (9-hour day) roster or a 9-day fortnight (10-hour day) roster and is based at Newmont's Cadia operation near Orange, New South Wales. You will report to the Superintendent Tailings Operations and work closely with Tailings & Water Operations, Planning, Technical Services, Safety, Environment and Training teams, playing a key role in connecting operational execution with risk management, continuous improvement and long‑term tailings and water management objectives.
