Job description

Mater is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Services team on a permanent full-time basis. This role will code across all Maters and is based at Mater’s South Brisbane Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements.
  • Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards.
  • Meet standards of coding accuracy and awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding.
  • Identification of unclear or ambiguous documentation and subsequent initiation of coding queries.
  • Participate in coding audit, quality and education to expand coding skills.
  • Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security within the medical environment.

About You:

You will have a HIMAA Introductory / Intermediate Clinical Coding Course / Certificate IV in Clinical Classification (or equivalent). You will also have:

  • Minimum five years (ideally full-time equivalent) experience working as a Clinical Coder.
  • Up-to-date Clinical Coding knowledge using ICD-10-AM / ACHI / ACS.
  • Experience using 3M Encoder.
  • Strong organisational skills in planning, prioritising and managing workloads.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Understanding of private sector funding models (Desirable).
  • Experience using Webpas, iPM, and scanned medical records (Desirable).
