Department of Justice and Community Safety VIC in Mildura is seeking an Admissions Officer to coordinate youth justice admissions, manage processes and systems that support young people entering our precincts, and help maintain a safe environment for staff and the community.

The role focuses on accurate CRIS data entry, record integrity, and transferring admissions between Cherry Creek and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precincts, with a fully funded Certificate IV in Youth Justice as part of the job.

Qualifications

  • Excellent administrative and data entry skills.
  • Understanding of the Youth Justice CRIS system would be highly regarded.
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviours of young people.
  • Ability to create a safe and rehabilitative environment for young people.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate admissions processes and technology systems for Youth Justice precincts.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (Youth Justice) is responsible for the statutory supervision of young people in the criminal justice system in Victoria focusing on prevention, diversion, and early intervention as the most effective and fiscally responsible ways of reducing youth crime. Youth Justice is committed to the demonstration of the Victorian Public Sector values. The values are: responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

Youth justice custodial centres accommodate young people aged 12-18 years who have been remanded or sentenced by the Criminal Division of the Children's Court, and some 18-21 year olds sentenced by Adult Courts to a youth justice custodial centre.

The Admissions Officer is responsible for admission processes and technology systems that support young people entering youth justice precincts, with Parkville serving as the primary admissions site. The role is responsible for accurate Client Relationship Information System (CRIS) data entry and maintaining the quality and integrity of admission records. The positions will coordinate the transfer of young people between Cherry Creek and Malmsbury Youth Justice Precincts, including admissions from courts.

As an Admissions Officer, you will be required and supported to complete the fully funded and provided Certificate IV in Youth Justice as a key component of your role.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Excellent administrative and data entry skills.
  • An understanding of the Youth Justice CRIS system would be highly regarded.
  • A comprehensive u nderstanding of the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • The ability to effectively manage the challenging behaviours of young people.
  • The ability to create a safe and rehabilitative environment for young people.
  • The ability to apply an understanding of adolescent development and the issues impacting youngpeople.

A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
