Job summary

American International Group (AIG) is hiring an Actuarial Analyst for its Managing General Agent (MGA) team in Australia and New Zealand. The role focuses on technical pricing, performance measurement and profitability across MGAs, with collaboration across Underwriters, Distribution and Finance.

The successful candidate will develop pricing models, monitor portfolio performance, and support due diligence for new MGA opportunities while leveraging data analytics and strong stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other quantitative fields.
  • Prior general insurance experience is required or highly preferred.
  • Experience in programming with Python, R or SQL is advantageous.
  • Experience with databases and data extraction/manipulation is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support pricing, monitoring and profitability assessments for MGAs across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Develop and implement pricing/rating models and technical raters.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and predictive modelling where appropriate.
  • Conduct profitability studies and assess budget loss ratios by segment.
  • Assist with due diligence for new MGA opportunities.
  • Engage with underwriters, functions and MGAs to provide strategic direction.
  • Assist with ad-hoc analyses as required.

Make your mark in Actuarial Our Actuaries are on the front lines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG's major insurance operating companies, globally. We collaborate with Finance, Claims, Operations, Marketing and Risk Management, among other functions. As part of the AIG Actuarial team, you will be challenged and encouraged to reach your greatest potential to help improve how we manage our portfolios.

How you will create an impact

The AIG Actuarial team support AIG's businesses and are responsible for technical pricing, product development analytics and performance measurement in collaboration with Underwriters, Distribution, Operations and Financial Management. Reporting directly into the MGA Actuarial lead, the Actuarial Analyst role is an integral part of AIG's MGA team and will support the pricing, monitoring and profitability assessments of all the MGAs across Australia and New Zealand. The role will have reach across geographical and functional boundaries to create alliances that further the organization's MGA objectives.

  • Support proactive, regular portfolio management to ensure sustainable profitable growth
  • Support development and implementation of best practice portfolio management and monitoring tools, covering top line metrics as well as key lead indicators such as strike rates, rate changes, retention, inflationary trends
  • Support regular assessment of profitability
  • Support development of new or refine existing pricing/ rating models and technical raters.
  • Where appropriate, use advanced analytics and predictive modelling analyses
  • Support detailed profitability studies and budget loss ratio by segment, to support strategy and risk appetite
  • Support due diligence analysis for new MGA opportunities
  • Assist with proactive engagement with underwriters, functions and MGAs, providing strategic direction and recommendations
  • Assist in other ad-hoc analyses as required
What you’ll need to succeed

Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other quantitative degrees.

Prior general insurance experience.

Experience in programming across at least one of Python, R, and SQL an advantage.

Experience with databases and proficient data extraction/manipulation skills an advantage.

Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet tight deadlines and prioritise own work.

Proven track record of collaboration delivering quality, accurate results in an efficient manner.

Professional behaviour with high level of integrity, including strong interpersonal skills.

Effective project & time management and strong communication skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
