Job summary

CSIRO is seeking an ActivFire Certification Officer in Melbourne to assess and certify fire protection products, combining technical analysis, auditing and stakeholder engagement in a dynamic role. The position involves cross-functional collaboration with industry, laboratories and other conformity testing bodies to uphold high product standards.

The role requires frequent domestic and international travel and a tertiary science or engineering qualification.

As a Conformity Assessment Body, the team assesses and certifies products and systems against Australian and international standards, CSIRO technical specifications, and other regulatory and industry requirements.

The ActivFire Scheme is a leading certification program for fire protection products and systems, supporting confidence in the performance and compliance of technologies used across the construction and fire protection sectors.

As an ActivFire Certification Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring fire protection products meet rigorous certification requirements. Working across technical assessment, auditing, stakeholder engagement and certification project management, you will contribute to a trusted program that supports safety, compliance and confidence across Australia's built environment.

Before applying, please note that this role requires frequent travel both domestically and internationally, for up to three weeks at a time. To be considered, you must be willing and able to meet this requirement.

Your high-level duties will include:

• Processing, verifying and validating products submitted for certification against relevant, established evidence and valid criteria.
• Conducting Factory Production Control (FPC) audits and documenting findings, corrective actions and certification recommendations in accordance with Scheme requirements.
• Registering and maintaining database and documenting records, issuing and processing customer agreements.
• Maintaining and updating web site/application content and publication of documents and data.
• Engaging technically, logistically and administratively, with internal and external laboratories and other conformity testing and certification agencies .
• Administering all processes and provide all required details and documentation for invoicing project fees in accordance with the project requirements and CSIRO's policies and business systems.

Location and office arrangements

AU$100k – AU$113k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation

As the successful candidate, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualification in an engineering or science discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply technical and/or regulatory documents, policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated experience applying judicious, evidence-based approaches to establishing conformance with specified requirements.
• Experience managing complex client or stakeholder enquiries and expectations, including the ability to clarify requirements and negotiate appropriate outcomes.
• Demonstrated organisational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent technical projects, maintain accurate records and meet competing priorities and deadlines.
• Demonstrated effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise, negotiate and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders; communicate technical information to broad target audience; and independently prepare technical documents such as reports and specifications.
• Technical expertise with the applications and tools of the Microsoft 365 platform including Access, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project and Teams.

Applications that demonstrate one or more of the following will also be considered favourably:

• Experience with ISO 17065 and ISO 17067 requirements for accreditation of product certification systems and bodies.
• Experience in auditing or compliance inspections in the industry sectors of building or fire protection.
• Experience or knowledge of fire protection products and systems, including for fire detection, suppression and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with and/or qualification in information management systems including database systems.
