Job summary

Clark Wood is seeking an Accountant to join an established independent firm of Chartered Accountants in Penrith, Cumbria. You will handle year-end accounts, personal and corporate tax tasks, and bookkeeping for a varied SME client base.

The role offers £30,000-£40,000 salary, full study support towards ACA/ACCA, and hybrid/flexible working. You will develop with a supportive team and gain experience across accounts, tax, VAT, and client advisory services.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a UK accountancy practice.
• AAT qualified, studying ACA/ACCA, or qualified by experience.
• Experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance.
• Good bookkeeping and accounting knowledge.
• Good communication skills and a client-focused approach.
• Keen to develop your career within practice.

Responsibilities

• Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and companies.
• Prepare and assist with personal tax returns.
• Support with corporation tax and tax compliance.
• Handle bookkeeping and VAT work.
• Respond to client queries and provide accounting support.
• Maintain accurate working papers and records.
• Use accounting software to complete client assignments.
• Work to deadlines and manage your own workload.
