Job summary

Watco Partners Pty Ltd in regional Victoria is seeking a capable public practice accountant to support senior accountants and partners. You will prepare financial statements and tax returns for a diverse client base, including SMEs and agricultural businesses, and advance your own client portfolio over time.

You will work with Xero and other cloud-based systems, communicate directly with clients, and develop growth strategies for their businesses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or equivalent required.
• CA/CPA desirable or in progress.
• Experience in public practice accounting required (2+ years).
• Experience with Xero preferred, MYOB acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders and individuals.
• Prepare general ledger reconciliations and review client accounts.
• Complete year-end and end-of-month accounting tasks.
• Assist with tax planning and taxation matters.
• Develop client relationships and provide practical solutions.

Job description

You will be supporting our senior accountants and partners as they provide service to a range of professional clients, including small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and agricultural businesses.

There is also scope in the role to advance your career and develop your own set of clients.

This is a diverse role where you will undertake a variety of tasks to assist these businesses with their growth strategies. When working on business clients, you will work as their accountant, providing reconciliations, financial statements, and tax planning and long-term growth strategies. When working with individuals, you will provide tax returns and tax planning assistance.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders and individuals

Prepare general ledger reconciliations and review client accounts

Complete year-end and end-of-month accounting tasks

Assist with tax planning and taxation matters

Work with clients to identify issues and provide practical solutions

Communicate directly with clients regarding their accounts, taxation and business matters

Support senior accountants and partners with more complex client work

Develop an understanding of clients’ businesses

Use accounting software including Xero and other cloud-based systems

Take increasing responsibility for your own group of clients as your experience develops

About You

You will hold a Bachelor of Accounting, Commerce, Business or equivalent and at least two years of experience in public practice accounting.

You have strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously.

Experience with Xero is preferred. You will also hold or be working towards your CA/CPA.

The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

The confidence to work autonomously while also enjoying being part of a collaborative team

A genuine interest in building relationships with clients

Experience with Xero, Myob or similar accounting software

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

CA or CPA qualifications, be working towards them, or have an interest in commencing the program
