Job summary

Sydney Grammar School is seeking an experienced Accountant to join the Finance Team. The role focuses on accurate financial reporting, investment accounting, cashflow forecasting, and compliance, while supporting budgeting and process improvements.

The successful candidate will have CA/CPA qualifications, 5+ years in accounting, and strong Excel and financial systems skills. Commencement is immediate, with the right to work in Australia and engagement with multiple stakeholders within the school

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualified with at least 5 years relevant accounting experience, preferably including financial reporting, investment accounting, audit and statutory compliance.
• Experience managing month-end and year-end financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, journals and audit support.
• Strong financial analysis skills with variance analysis and commentary.
• Experience with cashflow forecasting and liquidity monitoring.
• Knowledge of BAS, FBT, government submissions and accounting standards.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with finance systems and automation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
• Supervise and support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.
• Manage month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations and journals.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and continuous improvement of finance systems.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join the Finance Team at Sydney Grammar School. The role is responsible for accurate and timely financial reporting, investment accounting, cashflow forecasting, compliance and financial analysis, while supporting the Finance Manager with budgeting, forecasting and continuous improvement of finance systems and processes.

Key Requirements and Responsibilities

• CA or CPA qualified with at least 5 years relevant accounting experience, preferably including financial reporting, investment accounting, audit and statutory compliance.
• Demonstrated experience managing month-end and year-end financial reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, journals and audit support.
• Strong financial analysis skills, including investigating budget, forecast and prior-year variances and providing clear commentary to support decision-making.
• Experience preparing and maintaining cashflow forecasts, monitoring liquidity requirements and supporting investment and working capital decisions.
• Ability to account for investment portfolio movements, reconcile investment and cash accounts, and maintain appropriate supporting schedules.
• Knowledge of taxation, regulatory and compliance requirements, including BAS, FBT support, government submissions and accounting standards.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to work with finance systems, financial reporting tools and process automation opportunities.
• High-level numeracy, reconciliation skills and attention to detail, with a strong commitment to accuracy and integrity.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Finance, Payroll, HR, ICT and other stakeholders.
• Proven ability to supervise and support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions while managing competing priorities and deadlines.
