Job summary

UNSW is seeking an Academic Engagement Librarian to connect academics, researchers and HDR candidates with Library services and resources. You will deliver high-quality teaching, research support and outreach that enhances digital literacy and academic success.

Working with faculties and key stakeholders, you will develop tailored workshops and curriculum-integrated learning, ensuring access to top Library support and expertise. The role reports to the Team Leader, Academic Engagement.

Qualifications

• Degree from a higher education or research institution; ALIA membership eligibility a plus.
• Experience delivering in-person, online and hybrid consultations and workshops in higher education or similar environments.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and client liaison skills with ability to influence relationships.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently; manage competing demands.
• Experience using innovative technologies to enhance library services for digital information literacy and online learning.
• Understanding of UNSW aims, objectives and values, and related policies.

Why your role matters

The Academic Engagement Librarian plays a key role in supporting UNSW’s education, research and engagement objectives by connecting academics, researchers and Higher Degree Research (HDR) candidates with Library services and resources. Working collaboratively with Faculties, Schools and key stakeholders across the University, the role delivers high-quality teaching, research support and outreach services that enhance digital literacy, academic success and research capabilities.

Drawing on strong disciplinary knowledge and an understanding of the higher education sector, the position contributes to the development and delivery of tailored workshops, consultations and curriculum-integrated learning initiatives, ensuring the UNSW community has access to high-quality Library support and expertise.

The role reports to the Team Leader, Academic Engagement, and has no direct reports.

About You

Our ideal candidate should possess a strong service orientation, excellent collaboration and communication skills. You should be able to work independently and in teams and enjoy providing guidance and support to a diverse range of stakeholders, including Library academic engagement staff, faculty members, researchers and students as well as:

• A relevant degree from a higher education or research institution, with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience. Eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association would be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering in-person, online and hybrid consultations and workshops in higher education, research or similar environments.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and client liaison skills with demonstrated ability to influence and sustain relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team and across units, and to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
• Demonstrated experience using innovative technologies to enhance library services for digital information literacy and online learning.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
