Job summary

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District seeks an Aboriginal Population Health Programs Coordinator to lead cohort projects within Population and Community Health. You will coordinate Aboriginal health initiatives across PaCH services and SESLHD facilities, collaborating with the Aboriginal Health Unit to drive equity and better health outcomes.

The role requires tertiary qualifications in health or social sciences, strong communication and analytical skills, and willingness to travel.

The SESLHD Aboriginal Population Health Programs Coordinator will lead projects to address needs of the Aboriginal population as relevant to Population and Community Health (PaCH) services.
This PaCH role is hosted by the Health Equity, Promotion and Prevention Service, and will support collaboration and coordination of Aboriginal health initiatives across PaCH services and other SESLHD facilities and directorates. The role will work closely and collaboratively with the SESLHD Aboriginal Health Unit (AHU).
The position will work flexibly on various projects, initially including but not limited to:

  • Finalisation of a procedure to harmonise social supports available for Aboriginal clients and families across the district (in collaboration with social work and the AHU).
  • Improving vaccination rates among Aboriginal people in SESLHD, especially in relation to COVID-19 vaccination where rates for Aboriginal people are substantially lower than for non-Aboriginal people (in collaboration with the PHU and the AHU).
  • 'Housing for Health’ for Aboriginal people in SESLHD (with the PHU and AHU).
  • Supporting the operational work of the PHU as requested in regard to outbreak investigation and control, emergency management, and operational research, with a focus on Aboriginal people.

Priorities addressed will be consistent with and complementary to the SESLHD Burudi Muru Yagu Aboriginal Health Plan, and to the strategic directions within the NSW Ministry of Health, including the NSW Aboriginal Health Plan and the NSW Aboriginal Health dashboard.

Selection Criteria
  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under Section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977 (NSW).
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health or social sciences, or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working in Aboriginal health and knowledge in project management involving vulnerable populations designed to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills, with a strong customer service approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and other key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills that lead to the development of innovative solutions to improve service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the development of policy and processes in accordance with approved guidelines.
  • A willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position
