Job summary

South Eastern Sydney Local Health District is recruiting an Aboriginal Health Promotion Coordinator to advance community-led Aboriginal health initiatives and holistic care for local Aboriginal people and families. The role focuses on planning, implementing and evaluating programs while strengthening collaborations with Aboriginal organisations.

The position is Aboriginal Identified, requires cultural capability, and involves working with the Equity and Prevention Service to deliver impactful

Qualifications

  • Aboriginal health, health promotion, public health or community development qualification or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong planning, evaluation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with Aboriginal communities and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate planning, implementation and evaluation of community-led Aboriginal initiatives.
  • Deliver holistic care programs to Aboriginal people and families.
  • Strengthen partnerships between the Equity and Prevention Service and Aboriginal organisations.

What you'll be doing

The Aboriginal Health Promotion Coordinator will facilitate planning, implementation and evaluation of community led
Aboriginal initiatives and delivery of holistic care to Aboriginal people and their families, to improve the health and
wellbeing of the local Aboriginal community. This role will also enhance and build the collaborative working
relationship between the Equity and Prevention Service and Aboriginal controlled organisations and other partners.

Selection Criteria
  • Being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification for this position and is authorised under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Aboriginal health, health promotion, public health or community development or relevant equivalent work experience or a combination of study and work experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of health promotion principles and skills in planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of the processes of community development and building partnerships and experience in the provision of holistic programs.
  • An understanding or experience working with Aboriginal families and supporting health staff to provide services for Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare briefings and reports.
  • Current drivers licence (with a willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position).
