Latrobe Regional Health invites applicants to join its Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship within the Education team. This full-time fixed-term role runs 3 years from 2027, combining employment with study towards a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) through Charles Sturt University.

Qualifications

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and identify as such.
• Genuine interest in mental health and commitment to improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Willingness to undertake and complete a three-year Bachelor via distance education.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage study, workplace and placement requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to learn and engage in ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a three-year rotational traineeship across LRH Mental Health Services (inpatient and community).
• Complete a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) via Charles Sturt University, with residential intensives and clinical placements.
• Develop skills in mental health assessment, risk assessment and care planning under supervision.
• Engage in supervision, education sessions and professional development opportunities.
• Contribute to culturally responsive care by understanding issues affecting Aboriginal communities.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
