Job summary

Latrobe Regional Health invites applications for the Aboriginal Mental Health Traineeship. This full-time, fixed-term three-year program commencing 2027 combines employment with study toward a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) via Charles Sturt University.

Ideal candidates are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, with a strong interest in mental health, willingness to undertake a distance degree, and a commitment to learning within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required under Victorian Equal Opportunity law.
• Interest in mental health and commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
• Willingness to undertake and complete a three‑year Bachelor via distance education.
• Strong organisational skills to manage study, work and placement requirements.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to engage in professional development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a three‑year rotational traineeship across LRH Mental Health Services.
• Complete a distance Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) via Charles Sturt University.
• Develop skills in mental health assessment, risk assessment and care planning under supervision.
• Engage in regular supervision, education sessions and development opportunities.
• Contribute to culturally responsive care and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to the health service.
