Job summary

ALBURY WODONGA ABORIGINAL HEALTH SERVICE (AWAHS) is seeking an Aboriginal Health Worker for a full-time role located at Wodonga, VIC. You will support Aboriginal families and children in accessing health and community services with culturally safe guidance and direct assistance in navigating health journeys.

You will work closely with Child and Family Health Nurses in the Building Stronger Foundations program, strengthening health outcomes and community connections while upholding cultural

Qualifications

• A genuine passion and commitment to supporting Aboriginal children, families and community.
• Understanding of early childhood health and wellbeing.
• Current Driver’s Licence.
• Working With Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
• Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Supporting Aboriginal families and children to access health and community services.
• Providing culturally safe health information, support and guidance to community members to navigate health services.
• Working alongside families, parents and carers to support child and family health and wellbeing.
• Supporting people to attend appointments and engage with health programs.
• Participating in child and family health programs, community activities and health promotion initiatives.
• Building strong relationships with local services to ensure families receive the right support.
• Working collaboratively with the AWAHS team to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal children, families and community.
