Job summary

Hunter New England Local Health District seeks an Aboriginal Health Worker at Wallsend Campus to deliver culturally safe, family‑centred support to Aboriginal women and families with children aged 0–2 years. The role focuses on home visits, community connections and strengthening parent–child relationships.

You will engage with families, attend playgroups, and collaborate with the Sustaining NSW Family Services team, bringing your Aboriginal culture knowledge into everyday practice while

Qualifications

• Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or equivalent.
• Eligible to drive in NSW and travel as required.

Remuneration: $34.09 to $49.28 per hour + superannuation + salary packaging

Hours Per Week: 24 hours per week

About The Role And Where You Will Be Working

Join our friendly and passionate Sustaining NSW Family Services team and make a meaningful difference for Aboriginal women, families and children aged 0–2 years.

As an Aboriginal Health Worker, you’ll build strong relationships with families, support their goals and strengthen connections between parents, babies and community.

Your Role Will Include

• Home visits and family support
• Team check-ins and case reviews
• Supporting parenting and parent–baby relationships
• Attending playgroups and community activities
• Connecting families with local Aboriginal services and community events
• Sharing your cultural knowledge and providing culturally safe, family-centred support

No two days are the same, and you’ll be part of a team that values connection, collaboration and making a positive difference for families.

You will work across the local community and in family homes, as well as alongside the Sustaining NSW Family Services team. You will have opportunities to connect with local Aboriginal communities, services and community organisations.

This is a role where your cultural knowledge, relationships and passion for supporting Aboriginal families will be highly valued. You will be part of a team that works collaboratively, supports one another and enjoys having a bit of fun along the way.

About You

We’re looking for someone who can build strong, trusting relationships with families and colleagues, and who brings a strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems and local community connections.

You’ll be a confident advocate for families, bringing warmth, respect and a genuine commitment to supporting Aboriginal families to thrive.

You’ll be supported by a collaborative team, with access to Aboriginal Health Workers across the district for cultural support, professional guidance and clinical supervision

Requirements

This position is identified for applicants of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander descent. Are you of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent?

Holds or aspires to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.

Eligible to drive in NSW and the ability to travel as required
